Structural health monitoring (SHM) plays a vital role in ensuring the integrity, safety, and reliability of civil engineering infrastructure. With increasing complexity aging structures, need for effective systems has become paramount. This abstract presents an overview field structural monitoring, highlighting its significance exploring various techniques technologies used infrastructure.The objective is to detect, assess, predict condition structures real-time, enabling proactive maintenance minimizing risk catastrophic failures. Traditional inspection methods, such as visual inspection, have limitations terms cost, accuracy, coverage. SHM provides continuous automated collection data from sensors installed on structure. These capture related behaviour, environmental conditions, loading among others.This delves into different types employed include strain gauges, accelerometers, displacement transducers, temperature sensors, corrosion sensors. Strain gauges measure or deformation experienced by structure, while accelerometers detect vibrations dynamic responses. Displacement transducers monitor movement specific points, providing valuable information about deformations. Temperature help understanding effect variations behaviour. Corrosion presence corrosion, significant issue infrastructure deterioration.
